Discovering Choral Repertoire from Latin America
The Music of
Alberto Grau
Join María Guinand as she presents a three-part video course on understanding & interpretation of Hispano-American choral repertoire via the music of Venezuelan composer, Alberto Grau.
An acclaimed authority on this topic, Maria Guinand, shares her passion to have the world recognize and perform this vast repertoire. Choral music based on Hispano-American poetry and texts covers a wide spectrum of Spanish and Latin American choral repertoire of the 16th and 17th centuries and in later repertoires such as Zarzuelas and Operettas from the 19th century. The 20th and 21st centuries have witnessed a vast production of choral arrangements based on folk and popular tunes, but also an important legacy of original compositions in the style of the madrigal and choral song that appeared in the first half of the 20th century.
